Grantee Spotlight on GeekGirlCon

We’re excited to spotlight GeekGirlCon, a 2025 Gamers Engaged Play-it-Forward grantee. GeekGirlCon empowers women and girls to pursue their passions—whether they love science and technology, comics, literature, gaming, or anything else! Everybody is a geek at heart, in one way or another. Their mission is to ensure all these geeks are supported, welcomed, and encouraged to pursue what they love.

Our Interview with GeekGirlCon

Gamers Engaged: How will this Play-it-Forward grant support your organization?

GeekGirlCon: We’re so lucky that the Play-it-Forward grant can help us cover various parts of our amazing show. Even though GGC is a small non-profit convention, we try our best to make sure that we are able to compensate our featured contributors and the other talent that helps make our show special. Additionally, these funds will help our staff to get the much needed equipment in order to run their programs, bring more of our convention to virtual audiences, and showcase the games, artists, and vendors that help to make GGC what it is.

Gamers Engaged: What's your vision for the future?

GeekGirlCon: Being able to make our convention a safe and accessible place for all geeks will always be our priority. Over the next several years, we’re hoping to grow in a way that allows for us to not only grow our physical convention offerings but also allow for folks that are unable to join the convention to watch our panels and have their own experience virtually.

Gamers Engaged: What opportunities does your organization offer for community engagement?

GGC: GGC is a 100% volunteer run organization! We are constantly looking for year round staff to help us bring the best convention experience we can and we also love our group of day-of-volunteers. We will always say yes to an extra set of hands and to welcome folks to experience GGC for the first time.

Gamers Engaged: What's something really cool you have done in the past year?

GGC: Firstly, we celebrated 15 years of GGC in 2025! We are so happy that we get to continue to bring our convention to our community after all of this time. Secondly, at this last convention, we were able to bring Dungeons and Drag Queens to our attendees! We were so honored to have the cast come connect with our community and bring them a show that everyone loved.
